Hi - I know you post is some time ago - did you ever get an answer to this please? Are you using V7 by any chance?? Because I get this problem and Easyspace don't seem to be able to help!

Have you tried the settings provided in the post linked to above?
If you have and you still have problems then I think you should consider a different host.

Steve, will you ever stick to one thread so we can help you sort out your problem?

All this jumping about and posting in different threads is just wasting everyone's time.

All you need to do is follow the help and suggestions that people here are giving you and report back if you still have difficulty.

Sorry guys - I am just not used to it. I will do better. I have just added to the thread (I think) having tried all that Easyspace suggest and what you and your colleagues have told me but unfortunately to no avail. I have also tried the parameters above.

Time to move hosts then i'm afraid, they have a sketchy history with actinic at best anyway, so a good idea.

Thanks- I guess you are right. Just a waste of time and money. Do you have any favourites? I have identified a few that appear to be OK.

You should choose the easiest IMO and thus actinic's own hosting seems to fit the bill.

I wonder if you have come across a firm called Inventive Hosting. They will give a free trial and not charge if it doesn't work so they say. I'll probably give them a go. Steve

Is reverse psychology with you a good idea? if so please make sure you go with Inventive hosting.

Hiya - obviously you know something about them that I don't??

No, never heard of them myself. I guess that's the point, we'll have another 6 threads and 13 replies asking for help setting up network settings on a host few if anyone has ever heard of. Go for a mainstream host with settings already in the forum, it's clearly not an area of great knowledge for you.

Thanks - I am learning. Although my trade has been ICT, it hasn't been with internet - but with mainframes and associated - so I have been floundering somewhat. I appreciate your advice though.

Go mainstream, maximum help from the maximum number of users possible. There is so many better things to spend time on than network settings, it literally should be a 5 min job maximum. You dont even have to ask on the forum if you choose mainstream, there will be at least 10 threads on the subject with the correct settings contained within.

Hi Steve,
Lee's point is absolutely valid- the vast majority of users here use one of perhaps five hosts, simply because they work well with Actinic and the staff are familiar with how the servers need to be configured for Actinic to work well. When we started, we went with an unknown host which was recommended to me outside the forum, and it was a nightmare to set up. We're now with a host who's experienced with Actinic, and I'm free to spend my time managing our shops, not dealing with IT issues.
Actinic's own hosting is of course very good- for a number of reasons we've ended up elsewhere, but if you search you'll find lots of discussion about good or recommended hosting. If you're not especially computer savvy (like me) then for your sanity's sake, go with the flow on this, and don't put the bank balance first.
HTH :)

If you want a budget host then consider 1and1 Linux Business, if you want a specialist host then consider Actinic hosting.

You should be up and running easily with either.

You can find information on how to set up 1and1 here: http://actinic-tips-n-tricks.posterous.com/how-to-set-up-actinic-on-1and1-shared-linux-s

Stick with the known ones that work if you do not have the experience to sort everything out.

I used to host sites for quite a few people so picked up alot of experience in understanding network settings and control panels but i have always been able to get actinic to work on the ones i have chosen or setup. Some hosts dont have all the modules installed for "paypal callbacks" "compressed upload" and will give you problems down the road. If your going for a shared service then you are unlikely to get these modules installed. If you have your own dedicated server or vps solution then you can.

I currently use nublue - support is the best i have come across and general all round reliabilty seems to be good (still early days so no real evidence). But their shared servers dont have some of the modules installed, although actinic runs

but if you dont have the time or experience then go with the advice on here.
