Loss of navigation in checkout

Having run a couple of sites for several years I have only just noticed that when I enter the checkout I lose all the navigation buttons.

Is this correct or have my templates become corrupt?

That's correct. I also loose the section list from the left side of the screen. you should have a 'back' and a 'cancel' part way down the page though...
