View Full Version : Componenets Associated Weights?

Hi all,

A customer was just emailing me saying he tried to order several products (put some new paints on the shop last night) and the postage looked way too high?

I am really concerned about this because the other products in this line (and there are many!) are set-up the same and I don't know if I've made an error and not spotted it b4?

Basically, each product in the sections is linked back to a hidden product which then I can change the priuce of easily to effect all the others but - I also had the weight of the bottle (only 120ml 0.17) on the hidden product too.

I have the product set to Sum of Components Prices and I have always checked these - work fine for Prices as in the components box it is set to Associated Product Price prices.

Should I have added the weight in the visable product OR should the cart pick-up the weight from the invisible, associated product (which is what I thought) and if so, should the weight in the visable product be set to Zero so it doesn't add another default charge?

Hope that makes sense? I've asked customer to send me exactly which products so I can see if I can replicate it this end.

Thanks.

Beej

Makes perfect sense to me because I've had the same problem.

You're still using V6, right? If so, excuse my reply because I can't recall what options were in V6 but is there an 'exclude from shipping calculation' option in V6, near where you enter the weight?

If so, try checking this box as well as having the main product weight at zero and see if that helps.

(Hopefully someone with V6 will be able to help further)

Hi Tracy,

There is only a Ship Separately tick box near the shipping weight but to be honest - I never used this in the whole store as I wasn't sure what it did! Hehe :o

So should the item itself (visable) have a value of zero in the weight like a d-loadable item?

Thanks :)

right..wasn't sure if that 'exclude' option was in V6 or not.

I would say that, with the method you're using, yes, the visible item should be zero weight.
That's assuming it's being calculated correctly, however.
In V8, just having the weight at zero doesn't work, you have to tick the exclude box too which is why I asked about it. I honestly couldn't say if the same applies for pre-V8 though.

In theory, your method should work. Are you associated products ALWAYS hidden ones?
If so, you could try putting the hidden product weight at zero and giving the visible one weight instead? I would say that, in theory, using the set up you have, it should calculate overall weight just from the component and so, in this case, result in ZERO shipping weight but I have a feeling it won't!

Could be worth trying to test if it's not working just because it's ignoring your main products zero weight setting.

oh dear, hope that make sense!
