Anyone noticed a reduction in spam?

Not really. As they say, any reduction wouldn't last for long. It seems the web hosting company was allowing gangs to control botnets via their servers. These guys are big business and there's no way they wouldn't have a fallback server in place somewhere.

The PCs in these botnets are dead easy to identify. I still think the best way to stop them dead is to charge the service providers for the spam as then they'll actually bother to get in touch with their customers and get the spam stopped.

Didn't you say Sainsburys are already doing this Chris? :)

On a serious note - the last point on the article is a startling one.

spammers manage to turn a profit despite only getting one response to every 12.5m emails they send.
Perhaps if it read "spammers do not make a profit" then it would stop. Cause and effect. Supply and demand. Market forces etc.

More education required.

I also think that ISP's should be held accountable to the "quality" of traffic flowing through them - tough one to manage though!

Sorry Kathy

But I think your little furry friends would eat all the spam and then no profit
