hi everybody (ooo its dr nick)

been looking through the knowledge base and the forums to see if this problem has been patched yet..

i'm using the latest version of 6.13 (can't check the exact build no as i'm uploading as i type this) and was having the problem earlier today..

i realise that this problem only affects the users of norton/zonealarm but i think its gonna really affect people who do have that software from using our site.. i wouldn't want to be bounced back and have to go through 4 sections everytime i added a product to my shopping cart..

any answers would be more than appreciated..

cheers dudes / dudettes :D

Hi there,

The problem you are encountering has been seen before. Yes, you are correct only people with Norton and zone alarm get affected.

We are hoping to have a patch release late November or early December which I believe will have the fix for the problem that you are facing.

Has this been released yet? I've had a quick search but didn't find anything (except this thread)...

Hi John

This issue was fixed in 6.1.4, which was released in January.

To download the patch; simply go to http://www.actinicdownloads.com/v6/

um, the release notes only mention Norton - does this fix the zonealarm problem as well? (I know it's the same problem, but the fix may be different)

I've just been told 6.1.4 has some stability issues - what are the problems with this version? Are they specific problems or is it just generally unstable/buggy? Is there a later, more stable version that still fixes the noron/zonealarm problem...?

Hi John

I've just been told 6.1.4 has some stability issues

Do you have any references to this as i never heard of this version being unstable, and when using it to fix clients issue, it does not crash.

Kind Regards

I upgraded to 6.1.4 in February and it fixed all the problems I had (including Norton). It's been clean for me. It has one bug in the CSS that is fixed by a simple edit. The only major change in the Perl scripts I saw on a compare was the code for the Norton problem.

Assuming I have one PC with actinic 6 developer installed, and currently 1 site (but soon to be more)...

How can I upgrade to a new patch level (ie 6.1.4/6.1.5) and test it without screwing up my live site?

Is there a documented procedure somewhere? Any pointers as to things to watch out for?

Also, if upgrading from 6.1.3 what sort of things should I be looking for when testing? Will i have to do an in deptch test of everything, or is it likely to be ok...?

Here are my recommendation for you

1) In 'Business Settings | Ordering' select 'Suspended' and upload the store.
2) Download any orders.
3) Wait half an hour and download again.
4) Take a snapshot of your store (and also back up the 'Site1' folder somewhere just to be on the safe side)
5) Upgrade to 6.1.5. There have not been very many template changes recently so the site upgrade process (the problematic part) should not throw up any problems. You can check which templates have been updated in the release notes for 6.1.5.
6) Preview your store to check it looks OK.
7) Copy all the *.pm and *.pl files from 'Original' into 'Site1'. This is just belt and braces but it doesn't hurt.
8) Go to 'Web | Refresh Website' to upload your store.
9) Untick 'suspended' and then upload again.

Chris,

The V6 release notes from here: http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/faqs.htm only seem to go as far as 6.1.4 and don't mention 6.1.5.

I will get them updated.

In the meantime, the 6.1.5 changes can be seen HERE (http://www.actinicdownloads.com/v6/changes615.htm)

waaaaaait a moment. doesn't that stop people from buying stuff...? so my live site will be effectively 'offline' for over 30 mins? and even longer if the new patch doesn't work and I have to back out?

isn't there a way of testing it without impacting the live site? Is the problem that orders from the old version won't download to the new version?

isn't there a way of testing it without impacting the live site? There is in v7 - but in v6 there isn't really a proper way to do it other than:

1) Go to 'Advanced | Network Setup'.
2) Export your current live network settings.
3) Change the 'CGI Script ID Number' to 615 or something.
4) Change every reference of 'acatalog' to 'acatalog/test/acatalog'
5) Refresh the store.

This will upload your store to a subfolder called 'test' within your 'acatalog' folder. You can then check out your 615 without affecting the running of your live store.

and then once I'm happy the upgrade hasn't stuffed anything up, I follow your first procedure for the live site...?

Yep - you can suspend ordering on the v6 site and download orders a little while after the site is suspended to ensure there are no orders in progress.

Then when you are ready, re-import the live settings into your v7 and refresh the site.

Chris,

just an FYI on 'suspend' - when using the 'one add-to-cart button per page' option suspend doesn't seem to display any meesage at all. It just takes away the button leaving any customers who arrive somewhat in the dark as to why they can't add anything to the cart ("another broken e-commerce site", they probably say)...
