Shipping help needed.

I am setting up a shop which has a variety of products.

I need it like this:
Clothing costs £3.50 for delivery regardless of quantity ordered.
Steps cost £10 each for delivery, so if someone wants 3 steps then delivery is £30.

But then is someone buys some clothes and a step, a mix of delivery charges are worked out correctly, i.e buying a step and some clothes costs £13.50.

I have tried experimenting with ship by weight, but i cant get it to behave the way i want.

I think I have come up with something that might work for the shipping requirements you have.

Set your Shipping Calculation Basis to 'Total Weight'.

Then setup the grid as follows:

Weight in kg-----------------Cost
1999-----------------------£3.50
2000-----------------------£10.00
3999-----------------------£13.50
4000-----------------------£20.00
5999-----------------------£23.50
6000-----------------------£30.00
7999-----------------------£33.50
etc---------------------------etc

Put a weight in for your steps product of 2000 kg and set a low default weight in the Shipping and Handling tab for your clothes products (something like 0.1, which means that it they would have to order a lot to get up to the weight for the steps product). Put enough entries to allow for the number of steps you would expect one customer to order (ie, if a customer is likely to order no more than 3 steps the above grid is sufficient).

I can't see how one 'step' and one 'clothes' = 3999Kg (and therefor £13.50) rather than 2000.1KG (and therfor £10 shipping).

Maybe it's just me?

Looking at it, I think what you need to do is set 'clothes' items =1kg and then have a shipping table that says:

1999Kg -----> £3.50
2000Kg -----> £10.00
2001Kg -----> £13.50
4000Kg -----> £20.00
etc

Hi,

The shipping is worked out 'UP TO' the value specified in the table, therefore one step and one piece of clothing in the bracket between 20001 and 3999kg and therefore would cost £13.50. If the customer bought one step and a dozen clothes, they would still be in that bracket and get charged £13.50.
