Hi,
I'm trying to upload my v9 site (imported from v7) to a test website (same hosting company as main site - UK Servers) but running the network setup wizard just gets this message and I can never complete it
An error occured while sending a http request to the web server. Perhaps your network is down or the web server is down. Try again ......
Ftp is running fine, permissions are all fine, if I publish the site, it works, and uploads files, but has another error with cgi scripts .. which is the second issue .. can anyone help ?
Thanks.

Update: if I export the network settings, and import into another site (actinic business plus) it uploads fine (to same domain !)
How can this be ?

Error:
"
Actinic is not able to run the CGI scripts on the server. It appears as if the scripts are not installed. The most likely cause is that you have an incorrect CGI-BIN URL. If you've never uploaded the site, then you should do it before a download of orders. If you've uploaded the site ever, then Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration.

And what happens when you run through the wizard (Configure Web Site Details)?

I have been resolving various issues today with 425 errors for a site, it looked like a firewall problem or possible passive problems behind a NAT but i managed to get a successfull upload from another PC.
The site was a brand new default actinic site, the pc with the problems was running vista, the pc that works was running xp, both pc's are running v9.0.4 I exported the network settings to the xp pc so i know they were the same.
My only conclusion is there is still a problem with actinic and vista. I could upload in passive mode using a ftp program it was only Actinic that would not play ball.

TBH I wouldn't waste too much time in trying to get the Actinic upgrader to convert your v7 site to v9. You'd be better off just getting the products across and then using a new (or custom) v9 layout.

I am running XP, Same installation of business plus, one site uploads perfectly. I export the network settings, switch sites to my other site, and upload, CGI errors ....
Both have been imported from the original v7 site, I am not willing to start from scratch again, seeing as I have spent nearly 2 weeks adjusting and design this new layout, and site in V9 ...
Thanks

ok have you licensed a new site, taken a snapshot from the one that did not work and import it into this new site.
Also the 425 errors i mentioned earlier were not 425 errors but error "425 cant open a data connection". i just read it back, but this gives the same message in Actinic with regards "your network may be down" Actinic is not very good at listening to ftp error messages and if you have acess to the ftp log you will probably see lots of 425 errors.
IMHO alot of these errors are caused by the ftp part of actinic, why would changing script id's effect the ftp upload? why would compacting and restarting fix the ftp upload? it all seems a little odd to me but i dont understand about the inner workings of Actinic
Have you tried manually generating the scripts and pages then uploading? not the answer but i would be interested if it worked.

Tried this, same problem.
Tried compacting and then restarting, and uploading .. same thing.
Manually generating now, update tomorrow.

I have removed them from this post, but they contain old domain names I don't use anymore ?

Can I export the design, and products seperately ?? license a new site, then import the 2 ? ... the knife drawer is nearly empty !!

Go To Web > Network Settings. Click the SSL tab in the top left corner.
I guess you see those old domain names referenced there, right? If not...call support, something is obviously not working as expected.

Hi, thanks. I don't have a SSL tab.

So when you go to Web -> Network Setup and the Advanced Network Settings dialogue box appears, you don't have an SSL tab next to the Standard tab?
Sounds as if your installation has gone very badly wrong indeed. Support has to be your next port of call I reckon.

Ok, I see I can enable SSL in the settings, and I get the tab, I have changed all those, but still have CGI errors.

i see no one asked or suggested you change the script numbers in network settings. Then close compact and try again

Changed script number, compact databases . try again - same problem. There is obvisouly something else hiding within the whole setup causing this problem, I will contact support today. But any other suggestions would be appreciated :)

Time to contact support with your snapshot and network details I think Austin.
It seems you done all the obvious suggestions.

In fact, it has worked for my other site, I originally imported the v7 site, and then changed the design (for another website) and this uploads fine, this is where I have exported the network setup from, and imported into this site that is not working.

Hopefully it's an easy problem for them to fix.
Upgrading from v7 to 9 should be worth it with the added features you gain.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it is worth it, I just wish I hadn't spent so much time working on this now, that I'm in a situation where I don't want to start from scratch again after a few weeks work :(

Update: support come back with:-
".... server not being configured to accept “Post of Cgi Scripts”, this is something only the hosting company can fix"
I have replied saying this is impossible as my other site uploads fine to the same server ... have heard nothing since then (12pm)
I copied all the .pl scripts from the working site folder, into the not working site folder and the network test works, and the site indeed seems to be uploading. Whether it will actually work is another question. So I think I have narrowed it down to being a problem with the generated .pl scripts .. but what exactly I don't know. I will continue to update.

Are your sites sharing the same cgi-bin?
auztin100
08-Jun-2009, 05:04 PM
Thanks
The 2 sites are uploading to the same cgi-bin yes, but I have tried clearing the entire folder before uploading the other site. I have also tried changing to many differrent unique ID's as well as the suggested ones ...
The site is a test site I am using before overwriting the original, as I wouldn't want to be doing that until I am 100% happy, it is my livelyhood after all :)

As i said, i dont trust the ftp in Actinic, the error messages are not helpfull. The sooner actinic fix it or change the way it works the better IMHO

I'd suggest getting back to Actinic support and referencing this thread.

08-Jun-2009, 07:29 PM
Thanks, I referenced the thread originally, but it seems it wasn't read completely.
The upload worked until the end, and then failed on the merge, and the add to cart scripts don't work on the site (any of the scripts in fact)
I have replied to support but have not received a reply for 7 1/2 hours now.

You will only see the SSL tab in network settings if you have you ticked the SSL options in business settings / payments and progress.
The values you have been seeing in diagnostics with old site details will be leftovers from an old installation, nothing to worry about it you can't see them in the app.
Have you tried running the option on the help / troubleshooting menu to purge and refresh the website?

Go to Help> Troubleshooting. Then Web Site Purge & Refresh is a bottom of menu.
It's a button at the bottom of the help / troubleshooting dialog.

Ok, for those of you who are interested (unlike support) here is the solution.
(upgrade from V7 - V9)
Remove everthing from your ftp acatalog folder, and cgi-bin folder. (I ended up removing the folders also, and re-creating them, making sure the folders are set to the correct write access)
In your site/yoursitename folder remove all of the following files (I put them in a backup folder, in case all went wrong)
all .cat files
all .fil files
all files that have a **0001 (cgi ID number) .pm
all files that have a **0001 (cgi ID number) .pl
Run web | network setup --> Wizard
Tick both boxes, and follow the prompts through.
On the last page regarding email setup, remove all smtp settings and tick boxes so you can get the wizard to finish. (these can be added manually later)
now do a network test --> everything is fine then ...
now do a web --> refresh website
Woohoo.
Thanks to everyone here with suggestions, no thanks to support on this. Unless I couldn't find it, this maybe a good set of instructions for the KB ?
Cheers, I can actually test my website now, and start seeing the benefits of V9 :)
