View Full Version : upload stops - dialog box disappears

when trying to "publish to web" the "check and send" dialog box (randomly it seems) disappears, therefore with the upload just stopping.
No crash, no error message - almost as if I have just canceled the upload.

It happens almost instantly if I open the window to another application while the upload is in progress.
If I keep Actinic as the only window open it also happens, but further into the check and send process.
As a result I cannot update my websites which is becoming quite a problem.

I have tried the various methods discussed in the forum :
- Website purge and refresh
- change script number (say from 1 to 2)
etc
but to no avail.

I am running version 9.0.4.0.0.0.JFJA
Please can anyone shed any light on this ?

If you run task manager and watch how much mem and cpu the application is using for normal operations and then click to update the site and watch it then, do you get spikes in either or possibly it looks like it is doing nothing but cpu and mem still fluctuate maybe, showing it is still doing its thing, so leave it be maybe and see what occurs.

Are you running passive FTP transfers in your network setup?
Also check that there are no other FTP connections to your site (e.g. using an ftp client on your PC).

Check your password matches the ftp password - your host may have changed it.

my fix was to reboot my router as my internet connection was timing out
as it was so slow actinic just gave it up seems

happened on two differenet days in the last month or so

same fix each time

so i put it down to unstable internet connection ;)

Thanks for all your help so far. Its really appreciated.

I have been able to upload it occasionally, so I dont think its a router issue etc.
But if I try to upload again at another time it just stops. If I have made changes or not.

....Another weird upload anomaly - sometimes when it uploads, some of the styles/layouts look odd - almost like the stylesheet has been messed around with - but it hasn't !
If I try to upload again, and if it does work, the problem corrects itself without any intervention. Feels like the actinic.css file is not generated correctly or something is going wrong with the scripts.?

Actinic support's non-existent response to this has been, quite frankly, appalling, and I dont know why we pay them for so called "support".

If anyone from support is reading this, despite multiple requests this is now a serious issue as I cannot update my sites, and one of them cannot add to cart as a "purge and refresh" has messed with the scripts and did not finish the full upload as per the original problem.
And despite initiating the support ticket at the start of the week its now approaching the weekend and nothing has been resolved, hence we will lose sales as the cart is not working until next week when support re-open again.

Simon,

We don't seem to have any records of you logging this problem with us. I know you've been in touch regarding licence keys and are dealing with Kiran for the issue here (http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=43170), but haven't seen anything regarding your missing dialogue on upload. Could you PM me with details of the ticket if you have them and your phone number and I'll ask someone to call you this morning.

Hello folks,
I have read with some interest this thread and the problems associated with 'Publishing to web'.
I have exactly the same problem.
I see the thread started in August, but no resolution was forthcoming, other than a operator offering a support call to the frustrated user.

Would anyone know the outcome or reason for this problem.

Many thanks
Kev

Kevin

never really resolved on my part Im afraid.
Despite supports efforts (in the end !) I still have the same issue and i have just learned to "live with it"

Support maintain that there is no issue on their side - ie they cannot replicate the fault. However I cant even use the "publish single page" option, which is REALLY  frustrating as this would be a fantastic feature - if I could use it.

It would be great if you could let everyone know of any outcome that you may get from support - and any possible solution.
If you need to refer to my case, Chris Jackson in Support was the guy dealing with this.

Good luck !

Simon,
Thank you very much for that.
I also appreciate you kickiing the thread off in the first place.

I will of course update with any success on the issue.

Take care
Kevin

Simon,

Just thought, how are you uploading your changes then?

Simon,
Had some time with support team today and also my ISP.
Firstly i found that my ISP had changed my password that I use for FTP access (web/network setup/ftp details). That did not help of course.
I then entered the correct new password in the FTP details field, it started to upload but then stopped again, albeit took longer to cut out this time.

I then contacted my ISP again and they monitered the upload from the server itself.
They could see that when it cut out, it tried to connect again but this time using the old password! This bit I could not see from my computer but the ISP guy was able to tell me the actual password it was attempting to use.

Next, the ISP guy changed the password on my server back to the original one, i then entered that into the FTP details field and IT WORKED!! It made the changes i wanted and appeared to upload as required.
Then went back to the new password given to me by the ISP, and it failed again.

My password was changed due to a potential security breech and so I must have new password anyway, they are looking into why it doesnt like the new one.
Howewver it may be worth you checking that issue with your ISP, just in case.

If i get any luck from here i will come back and let you know.
Regards
Kev

Kevin

without revealing your password, was it simple alpha-numeric characters or did it have a mix of special characters etc ?

Hello Simon,

It was simple Alpha - numeric, usual sort of thing really.

OK. Who is your ISP out of interest ?
