V7 - 'link' to add item to basket from external site?

Hi,

I'm sure I read a thread on this a few years ago but I can't find it.

Anyone know how to add a product to the basket from an external website?

ie. I have another (non-ecommerce) website running a promotion and I want to put a 'buy now' button on it which will swap to my actinic site and place the product in the basket and leave the user on the cart (or checkout) page.
