I've been using Actinic for many years [www.startrader.co.uk] but only just recently have tried broadening out my listing options...but have hit a problem which I would be ever so grateful if someone could comment on.
I have a lot of magazines [Star Trek Fact Files] which, whilst different, have the same price. Instead of listing them all separately as different products I created one "umbrella" product with all the different issues as individual 'choices'. I have been very careful and it looks fine - there is a dropdown menu from which a customer can select whichever issue or issues they want
Only trouble is when they "add to cart" I get this message -
Error: The specified product (reference STFACT) has just been removed from the catalog. Please return to the catalog and continue shopping. If you press the Refresh or Reload button on your browser, the removed products will no longer be visible in the catalog. We apologize for the inconvenience.
I've done the work over and over, changing the text here and there, nothing seems to rid me of this error. All my other regular product listings still work OK
Anyone any ideas ? As I said, I would be very grateful as I have searched the Fortum best I can without finding this difficulty discussed....

Have you tried a Web | Refresh as it might be the .fil file and cat file have not gone up.
Would try this first.

Thanks for your idea but...it did no good ! Exactly the same 'fault'. I must be doing something wrong but for the life of me I can't see what ! This is the page causing me grief...

what have you got set up in permutations tab of the component for this product?
Anything?
Are you choices linked to associated products (for stock control)?

Sorry, I don't know what a "permutations tab" is ? As far as I know I haven't set up any components. I'm V.7, is that a factor?

i think the getting started guide tells you how to set up a product with permutations, find it from the start menu, actinic etc

I've got the Getting Started printed out, so will take a look - thanks !

is the compact database option available in V7? (Housekeeping menu)
Might be an option.
If it's not, try a 'compact and repair' in Access, if you have it.
If you're not using a component, I assume you have your product set up with an attribute and choices then? That would explain not having any permutations.
Have you been creating duplicate products at all - there was a bug ages ago where if you had a duplicate product whose parent was hidden you get that problem - the solution was to hide the duplicate and show the parent.
Cheers,

Yes, I was avoiding components and just using Attributes and Choices. I have tried doing it by creating components but I still get that error message I posted right at the beginning of this Thread. I've compacted the database and refreshed the entire site as well. Still struggling...

I have double checked everything and even simplified it a bit by taking out a Brochure Page which I thought might be complicating matters...all to no avail. This really is bugging me as I'd like to use the technique for a whole slew of new products in the same line and with the same price....

David,
I do something like this in V7, but I use products connected with the choice - following the AUG example.

Alan, thanks for joining in and trying to help. Had a look at your site which was pretty nifty. Can you direct me to the AUG example as I couldn't just find anything. Then again, I am a bit dim...!!!

Oops. Wrong manual. It was in the original StarterGuide that came with the software and is on the CD. It's in the Store Building section. There is also an Appendix on Help With Components.

I am pretty sure I don't need Component. I have a range of magazines, all in the same series but with different issue numbers, of course. I have created a new product with the title of the magazine and a cover price. I have then created an Attribute for "Issue number", then a series of Choices as "Issue 1", "Issue 2" etc. This all looks great but when you select a particular issue from the dropdown menu and "Add to Cart" this is the message I get...

All very frustrating ! I have read the Starter Guide and Appendix but really can't understand what I am doing wrong !!!! Any further help gratefully and graciously appreciated

Just thought I'd bring my query back to the top of the heap as I am having REAL problems with the error message indicating the item has "just been removed" from the catalog [sic]. This problem is 'infecting' a number of my products for no rhyme or reason.
I have interrogated the database Product section to see if there is anything which makes the products-in-error stand out from those not affected but without any luck. Is there anyone with ANY ideas as to what the problem is ? I seem to be wasting hours and hours trying to work it out without success !
Your help REALLY appreciated on this one.....

have you compacted the database both in actinic and access if the former has no effect?

I tried that link and the effect isn't quite the same as when you order through the catalogue. When you do this is the message you get is...

This comes up immediately you press the "Add to Cart" button. But on some products it doesn't !!!

Just seen another request for help from someone with the same error message but it only relates to out of stock items, do you have stock monitoring for this product and is it in stock? I have not used V7 only V8 and V9 and this problem may well be related to the way V7 handles stock items.

Thanks for your input - I wasn't using stock control BUT since I last posted I have downloaded V.8 and uploaded same. All the problems have disappeared ! I now only have to sweat it out and see how much it'll cost when the trial period runs out !!!!

...apart from the fact I've just logged in from home and found the whole catalogue not working due to a script error ! Which means I'll have to go in on my day off an upload the whole thing again as something's obviously gone wrong somewhere. The joys of modern technology. Just watched a repeat of the BBC-4 documentary featuring the family taking to task living in the 1970s and the 'home comforts' of the time. Oh, how I wish it was for real !!! The joys of a Dansette and not much else...
