Google Sitemap Error

Google is reporting an error accessing my sitemap but I cannot see what the problem is. Can anyone help?

Error message: We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.

Has this just happened recently...or has Google made several attempts and fails every time?

It has only happened on the latest attempt

If it produces errors the second time round...then there's a problem, otherwise it's probably just a glitch in their systems. Wait it out until Google makes a second attempt...

Without any changes, Google has accessed the sitemap without errors today.
