Hi Can anyone help me to set up site verification using google webmaster tools please.
It can be done with a meta tag, html file or dns txt
can you advise the simplest method of doing this please?
Thanks

The simplest method is to create a file as they describe and manually upload it using an ftp client to the root of your website.

Google webmasters tools explains how to create the required file. You then need to upload that file into the root of your website using an ftp client - not Actinic.

In case any of this sounds confusing:
- FTP Client software:
A piece of softare that allows you to log in to your web server and transfer files to and from it. A search for 'free ftp software' should find some good ones.
- Website 'root':
The website 'root' is just the base directory of your webspace. i.e. the file needs to be at www.yourdomain.com not www.yourdomain/acatalog/.

Hi guys
Thank you for your explanations, I now understand what has to be done.
"Quick overview of my problem"
My problems began with a google message saying possible harmful site, after a lot of work it turns out that our site had some malware added.
This appeared not to have come from our local machine as all scans were showing it was clear.
After getting the malicious script removed Google are asking for site verification to enable reconsideration to be done.
This weekend has been a bit of a nightmare and also a steep learning curve.
Thanks again for your help.
