As requested by the community, and for those that weren't at the customer conference, I promised to share the v11 features.

The core features are as follows:

Online Customer Accounts
Online Order History
Single Product Per Page
Single use Coupons
Improvements to SEO
Community niggles, as discussed already

Obviously we are talking about pre alpha software, so the usual caveats apply. Early indicators point to a May / June release, we should be having a very early alpha build in the new year, we'll put a call out .

Hope you approve :)

The first two are great news as they are the most I get requested, I assume it means customers can sign up for their own account?.

I like the idea that online history and order status will be available without having to create an account.

Like many other sites, you will be able to check your order status with just the order number and your post code.

The new features should be great, but the API seems to be maybe for 12 now and upgrade to the access database similarly.

Enjoyed the conference, still trying to work out how you can do all that social media stuff in half an hour.

So does this mean that customers who access previous orders online will be able to use those previous orders to build new orders?

Any updates on this yet Ben?

I think the intention is to be able to reorder previous orders and then make modifications before checking out.

Are we still looking at a May/June release for v11?

I suspect that time frame may have changed a bit. We haven't seen a public beta yet and there would be a period of time after that before a final release.

We are busy working on getting v11 ready for beta, usual conditions apply, but we should have something people can get their hands on for June / July.

Hi Ben, do we have a solid schedule for V11 now given the Oxatis tie up. I know it is only July, but I am concerned about getting the new update done for Xmas. I would not like to be doing major updates on sites in Oct-Dec since this is such a key period. With a still no sign of a beta this is looking quite tricky, to get testing and work out the implications for the new features done by end of Sept.

Really need some solid dates now to be planning the potential upgrades.

...I hope the Single Product Per Page feature will be an option we can turn off!

We tear our hair out whenever we work on a client site with a section created for every product. It isn't an efficient way to manage a catalogue and any SEO benefits can be achieved in far simpler ways using custom variables.

Can you confirm please Ben... If V11 forces the use of SPP it may well become a show-stopper for us.

I believe that SPP will be selectable at product level and that you will be able to select SEO features such as Page Name, Page Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords for each product page.

So whats the latest estimate for a public beta release of V11 ?

Duncan Rounding
31-Jul-2011, 08:07 PM
Rumour has it that v11 will hopefully be out in the autumn so you can work backwards from that. It will all depend though on how early testing goes I would expect, so dates could always change.

Do we have a BETA release date yet on Actinic v11 ?

Do we have a BETA release date yet on Actinic v11 ?
It is in Alpha at the moment, I am guessing September for first Beta but I may well be surprised.

On the v11 single Product per Page will Actinic automatically create the Page Title (derived from the product name) and create any Meta description? Although one can fine tune these manually, when you may have thousands of products it will take a long time to get round to them all and it would be nice to have SOME wording. If not I will have to create some automatic features on my database to fill in the appropriate field(s) providing Actinic will allow these fields to be imported from a database?

Duncan Rounding

I expect the following but it may be different...
The page name will be automated with a numeric suffix at the end of the product short description but the other fields such as page title and metas will be empty for you to fill in. This could be done via the database or by import/export.

Thanks Duncan and for the quick reply!
This gives me a good idea of what to expect and prepare for.
