My computer is online and goes out to the internet in every program I try except Actinic. I've use Actinic for years on several computers, and now, after a move, I can't even get onto the internet. I haven't changed any settings - I have a direct connection so didn't need to change settings. My website is still where it always was.
Any ideas? If Windows and other programs can find my internet connection, why would Actinic not be able to?

Sounds like a firewall or permissions problem.
Try disabling yuour firewall and also turning UAC off as a test first.

I agree that it sounds like a permission problem! But I can't figure it out. My main computer crashed so I'm trying to get an older xp computer up and running. I can't figure out how to disable UAC/UAP but I have removed passwords. Firewall is turned off. AV software disabled.
My main computer will be repaired in a few days, but I'm losing a LOT of money every day that I can't get Actinic back up on xp. Any more ideas?

IS this Norton? There have been problems in the past and even when 'turned off' Norton still does it's own thing.
The best option with firewalls is to manually configure the software to leave Actinic alone.
There are a few other things that can cause this response but without knowing the details of your system we're all just guessing.

No Nortons anywhere on the computer.
I already did manually configure Windows firewall to allow FTP.
I opened ports 20, 21, 80.
I compacted the database many times.
CGI and acatalog permissions have always worked before. I have downloaded and uploaded in the past hundreds of times.
I moved to a new location with the same LAN configuration, and now it won't connect for either download or upload. The only difference is I'm using a satellite connection instead of DSL. I'm new to satellites, so maybe I'm missing something.

This is a tough one. A different computer, with a different OS, using a different access technology (and probably different router). It makes it hard to pinpoint where the problem might be.
The mention of satellite raises a question. Can you check your IE settings and see if for some reason it's been set to 'work offline'? This could cause the error message you're getting.
I'm also wondering if there might be a proxy server involved somewhere, although whether this would be a problem or not I don't know.
The other thing I'd suggest is to try a network test and see what happens. Among the other tests Actinic does is to check it can access the webspace via http. This error message doesn't necessarily mean it's an ftp problem so Actinic needs to be allowed both ftp and http access.

PS. Your smtp usename and password are visible. Best edit your post and change them.

I think it was IE. I found a setting that had reverted. But I also reinstalled xp, so it could have been something in windows too. But thank you for the help!!!!!!!!!!!
