remove shipping charges from cart value

Is there a way to remove the shipping charges so they do not show up in the "cart value" until customer is ready to checkout?

Hi,

You need to switch off the 'Request Location Information Early' option in 'View | Business Settings | Ordering'. Because you have this switched on it knows where to ship the items to and will add the shipping cost into the basket.

Did this but now assumes the customer is in our state and adds sales tax, which will confuss the customers that should not be charged with sales tax! Is there any other way to remove the shipping charges from the "cart value" without adding charges that should not apply to that customer?

The tax is showing by default, because your state is currently set up as the 'Default Tax Zone' in 'Business Settings | Tax'.

Go to 'Business Settings | Tax' and highlight the 'No Tax Levied' tax zone. Check the 'Default Zone' box.
