Product listings vs Brand listings

I am building a new store for a client and have the store laid out in product sections. But, naturally, there are many similar products from different brands. How can I offer the buyer a way of looking at all the products under one brand name? I don't want the customer to type the brand name into the search page, but rather offer them a drop-down-listbox (in act_primary) or a brand name page which will then bring out all the products for that brand.

I have seen a site using Actinic which does this, but cannot fathom out how they have implemented it.

I you want a page with all products from a particular brand then you will need to add a new section for the brand name and copy the appropriate products over to it.

You can use components to link all of the products in catalog to a single hidden product to maintain prices, description and stock control in a single place. (See advanced guide for more details).

Also, if you are using Actinic Business, you can create a custom search field called 'Brand' using custom properties, and then set up how it are searched on in 'View | Search Settings | Searchable Properties'. You can then supply a 'brand' value for each product in the 'Properties' tab or each product.

That way, people can go to the search to show by brand - or go through the section hierarchy to shop by product.
