Setting default for section link layout

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to set the section link layout in a section to default to a custom layout as opposed to "use parent". If this is possible can this be applied to "product layout" in product details.

The default setting for both product layouts and section layouts is to 'use parent' i.e. to use the template defined at the level above (whether that be the containing section, or whether it be Design | Options | Layouts).

Therefore, if you put a custom template in 'Design | Options | Sections', then all the sections/products set to 'Use Parent' will use that custom template.
