EPOS and linked database?

I am finding the lack of a data export from EPOS a problem. We imported all our product data, and still do, into EPOS. I like the purchase order (of our supplier products not customer orders) and stock take functionality in EPOS but want to have more access to the data out of EPOS.

Has anyone tried linking the EPOS tables to an external database?

I don't need it to be dynamic in that a change in an external database updates the EPOS database. I just want to have the data out of EPOS so I can 'slice & dice' it as I want - it would be one way in that it is out of EPOS into our own database.

I am still thinking through how I could use the data best but first thoughts are for financial control and supplier ordering that fits their criteria. Additionally, because EPOS does not have an export feature, I struggle to get the data out to then even re-import changes.
