Actinic Software: Windows Vista & Windows 7 compatibility

Please Note: Only V7.0.7 and v8.5.0 ecommerce products and later, and v2.73 EPOS and later, are designed to work with Windows Vista

Actinic Business Plus multi-user / Enterprise (Access version)
There is a known issue with Microsoft Access databases becoming corrupted when they are shared from a Windows Vista machine running IPv6. For more information and a workaround, see our Knowledge Base article.

Actinic Ecommerce

Version 9
All releases of Actinic version 9 are fully Windows 7 and Windows Vista compatible.

Version 8
Versions from v8.5.0, released on 26th February 2007, are compatible with both Windows 7 and Windows Vista. However there are a few known issues with the Dreamweaver extensions, Actinic Link, and the command line interface:
  • If using Actinic Link or the DreamWeaver integration, Actinic must be installed outside the Program Files folder
  • DreamWeaver integration does not work if User Account Control of Vista is on
  • Command line automation of Actinic Link for Quickbooks (US) does not work
  • Command line automation of Actinic and Actinic Link for Sage does not work if User Account Control is on v8.5.0 is a free upgrade for existing v8 users and may be downloaded here.

Version 8.0.4 will run on Vista and probably on Windows 7 but with the following additional issues:
  • The installer cannot download Actinic Link from the Internet.
  • If User Account Control of Vista is on, then each time Actinic is started, Vista warns that the application is not signed (authenticated). The user can confirm that they want to proceed and Actinic will run normally. Actinic Link, if used, generates the same warning.

Version 7
Version 7.0.7 fully supports Windows 7 and Windows Vista. However there are a few known issues:
  • If using Actinic Link or the DreamWeaver integration, Actinic must be installed outside the Program Files folder
  • DreamWeaver integration does not work if User Account Control of Vista is on
  • Command line automation of Actinic Link for Quickbooks (US) does not work
  • Command line automation of Actinic and Actinic Link for Sage does not work if User Account Control is on
  • Amending Product or Brochure Fragments or switching between the 'General' and 'Links' tab for a Fragment generates an 'Out of memory' error. To fix this issue, first backup your current Catalog.exe file, which is usually in 'C:\Program Files\Actinic v7. Then download the Out of memory patch zip file and extract the new Catalog.exe into the same folder.

Version 7.0.7 is a free upgrade for existing v7 users and may be downloaded here.

Version 7.0.6 will run on Vista and probably on Windows 7 but with the following additional issues:
  • The installer cannot download Actinic Link from the Internet.
  • If User Account Control of Vista is on, then each time Actinic is started, Vista warns that the application is not signed (authenticated). The user can confirm that they want to proceed and Actinic will run normally. Actinic Link, if used, generates the same warning.

Version 6 and earlier
Windows 7 and Windows Vista will not be supported for version 6 and earlier versions.

Actinic EPOS

Actinic EPOS is not currently compatible with Windows 7. The issue will be resolved in a future release.

Actinic EPOS versions from 2.73 are fully Windows Vista compatibility, however the installer is incompatible with Vista's User Access Control. Before installing, turn off UAC by following these steps:
  • In Windows Vista, click Start, then Control Panel
  • Select User Accounts, then User Accounts again
  • Select Turn User Account Control on or off
  • Un-tick 'Use User Account Control (AUK) to help protect your computer'
  • Click OK

Once Actinic EPOS is installed, you can enable UAC again if you wish. Follow the same steps, and re-tick 'Use User Account Control (AUK) to help protect your computer'.
